The story of Prescott's response to a multi-victim child sexual abuse crisis and the lessons contained in this document emerged through an extensive interview and consultation process involving former members of the Prescott Child Sexual Abuse Advisory Committee and a host of other individuals involved in the Prescott case.  Our goal was to present this material in easy-to-understand language and an accessable format in order to reach the widest possible range of readers.

The Prescott Child Sexual Abuse Advisory Committee coordinated the community's response to the crisi between the spring of 1990 and the summer of 1992.  After that, the Leeds-Grenville Children's Services Advisory Group assumed responsibility for liasing with the special team set up to provide treatment to the child victims.

The author wishes to express her gratitude to alll those who helped create this document by so generously sharing their insights, experience and expertise.  The content is a testament to their hard work, dedication and deep concern for the children and community affected by the crisis.

About the art work:

The pictures in this document have all been drawn by children in the course of an art therapy process designed to help them recover from their experiences of sexual abuse. We hope that their art work will provide a powerful counterpoint to the story of how one community tried to help victims of child sexual abuse and also serve as a continuous visual reminder of their pain, courage and capacity for healing.

The names attached to the drawings are not the real names of the child artist. We have used pseudonyms to protect the children's privacy. We would like to express our deep appreciation to the therapists at Beechgrove Children's Centre and the Prescott Treatment Team (Ruth Campbell-Balagus, Dr. Susan Meyers and Bridget Revell) for helping to collect the art work and secure the children's permission to use it. We also thank Crayola ® for their kind gift of' creative development materials for the artists. But most of all, we'd like to pay tribute to the children who so generously shared their work with us.

The Leeds-Grenville Children's Services Advisory Group gratefully acknowledges the kind support of Delta Printing, Studio Colour Group and Ginn Digital in helping to make the printed handbook available to as many people as possible.
