Use of car seats
Back
to Keeping Kids Safe As of
September 1, 2005, new car seat legislation will be in place. All children under
40lbs (18 kg) must be in an approved car seat. Children over 40 lbs. will need to be
in a booster seat until they are 8 years old or 80 lbs (36 kg) or 49 (145 cm).
The Ministry of Transportation has information which can help you to
choose and use the correct type of car seat. Visit
Smart Love at MTO.
If you already have a car seat and are wondering if the car seat
has had a recall or public notice,
Transport Canada keeps track of this information. When using this chart, you
need to know the manufacturer of your car seat, when it was made and the model name
and number.
Car seat clinics are held in spring and fall. Trained volunteers are
available to help parents check their car seats for recalls and to use the seat
properly with the harness system and the cars seat belt or
universal attachment
system.
