In 2001, as in 1996, about 90% of the working population of Leeds Grenville and Lanark (LGL) used cars and trucks to get to work; public transit users were few but almost 8% reported walking or bicycling to work.

According to the Census, there continues to be a significant percentage - about 13% - of homes in which residents are exposed to second hand tobacco smoke.

Recreational beaches were closed 10% of the time on average between 2000 and 2003.

With the presence of West Nile Virus in Ontario in the last several years, there has been much attention to the role of measures related to physical environments in decreasing the risk of disease. The Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit's "West Nile Virus Evaluation 2003" provides detailed information about the prevention and control program conducted in the LGL area in 2003. http://www.healthunit.org/westnile/reports/finalevaluation_2003.htm
