Family Composition
- In 2001, 40% of all
families in Leeds Grenville and Lanark (LGL) were families with children living at
home.
- The percent of lone-parent families was 12.7 % of all families in 2001, and
22.2% of families with children at home. In the 2001 census there were changes to
the family concept definition that may account for some of the increase from 1996
when lone parent families accounted for 18.8% of families with children at home.
- The dependency ratio is the number of children aged 0-14 and people aged 65
years and older relative to the total number of people aged 15-64 years. In LGL this
ratio was 54.0 in 2001 compared to 55.7 in 1996. This compares to a ratio in Ontario
of 48.1 in 2001.
- The number of seniors age 65+ was 23,495 in LGL in 2001. Of these, 28 % were
living alone, a similar proportion to that observed in 1996 of 28.6%.

13.3 % were educated in the trades, while 32.2 % had a college or university
education.
- 77% of 15-19 year olds were attending school, exactly the same proportion as the
provincial average. In the age group 20-24, 43.6 % were attending school, somewhat
lower than the overall Ontario percentage, 51.8.
