Programs and ServicesCINOT is a provincially and municipally funded program for
children in need of dental treatment. This program ensures that all
Ontario children in urgent need of dental care will receive
immediate treatment.
Who is eligible?
Children who are Ontario residents up to and
including age 13 years or the last day of the Grade 8 school year
(whichever is later):
- Who have dental conditions that could cause pain or trauma.
- Who are not covered by a dental insurance plan.
- Who do not qualify for assistance under a provincial social
assistance program that already includes dental coverage.
- For whom the cost of treatment would be a financial hardship
to the family.
How does the Program work?
The Health Unit Oral HealthTeam provides oral
screening in area
schools on an annual basis and at various locations throughout the
year in the tri-county area. If you would like to arrange an oral
screening for your child, please contact the Health Unit.
If your child is eligible for coverage under the CINOT program, the
Health Unit will provide you with a dental claim form for you to
take to the dentist of your choice. The dentist sends the claim to
the Health Unit for payment.
What dental care is covered under the Program?
This program covers basic restorative care including fillings,
x-rays, extractions and root canal treatment.
Preventive dental services such as cleanings, fluoride treatments
and oral hygiene instruction may be provided by a Health Unit
Registered Dental Hygienist for CINOT eligible children.
