The Oral Health Team at the Health Unit is offering a fluoride varnish program in all schools in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Counties in the 2016 –2017 school year for students in kindergarten.
What is Fluoride Varnish?
Fluoride varnish is a professionally applied sticky, paint-on gel that protects teeth against decay. It has been extensively studied and is highly effective at preventing decay in children who are at increased risk of tooth decay. It is quick, painless and can be easily applied in a school setting. For more information on fluoride varnish, see these Frequently Asked Questions.
How will the school fluoride varnish program work?
When the fluoride varnish program is offered at your child’s school, a package will be sent home. The package will contain information about fluoride varnish and will include a medical history consent form. If you are interested in your child participating, please complete the form and return it to your child’s teacher.
Upon obtaining the completed form, your child’s name will be added to the fluoride varnish clinic day at your school. If participating, your child will receive two applications this school year and two applications next school year as well.
