Our Role as YOUR Health Unit
Immunization is not just for babies and children. Immunization begins in infancy and continues with booster shots throughout your lifetime. It is important to keep a record of your immunizations. You will be asked for your record when:

  • starting daycare or kindergarten
  • starting summer camp, college or university
  • transferring to a school in another region
  • starting a job
  • getting your booster shot
  • presenting yourself for emergency health care.

Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit plays a vital role in promoting immunization among our residents. We track the immunization status of all students in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit, provide free immunization clinics to school-age children who don't have a valid Ontario Health card and offer free hepatitis B vaccine to Grade seven students. Our Healthy Sexuality clinics offer screening to individuals from the general public who could be at risk of getting hepatitis B. Our clinics also provide free hepatitis B vaccine to individuals who are at risk of getting hepatitis B.

Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit also supplies local doctors with vaccines on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Health. This includes vaccines like influenza (flu) and pneumococcal vaccine. Physicians give these vaccines, free of charge, to patients at risk of serious illness or death. High risk individuals eligible for free flu and/or pneumococcal vaccine include persons over 65 years of age, those weakened by ongoing health problems, and those caring for high risk people (e.g. health care providers in long-term care facilities).
