Chain of Infection

A chain of events all interconnected is required for an infection to spread.

All caregivers have a responsibility to the children in their care to work towards breaking the chain so that infections do not occur or spread.

How can you help break the chain?

Ways that care givers can break the chain

  1. Ensure all children are up-to-date with childhood immunizations
  2. Have a yearly flu immunization
  3. Wash hands
    • after toileting and changing diapers
    • before and after preparing food (adults)
    • before eating (children and adults)
      See handwashing
  4. Practice respiratory etiquette
  5. Use antibiotics wisely
