What is Food Security?
• Back to Food Security

Food security exists when people “can get enough food to eat that is safe, that they like to eat, and that helps them to be healthy. They must be able to get this food in ways that make them feel good about themselves and their families.” Ontario Public Health Association

Food insecurity occurs when an individual or family has “limited or uncertain access to nutritious, safe foods necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle.  Households that experience food insecurity have reduced quality or variety of meals and may have irregular food intake.”
United States Department of Agriculture
