The preventive nature of public health is evident when we
can demonstrate the ability to respond to potential threats to the
health of the public. Program standards as outlined in the proposed
Ontario Public Health Standards, 2008 include Emergency Preparedness.
The Health Unit will have a lead role in responding to public health
emergencies with the goal of enabling and ensuring a consistent and
effective response.
Pandemic Influenza is a potential global public health emergency that
requires preparedness, response and recovery roles and responsibilities
for the Health Unit. The planning should include communication,
collaboration, education, training and exercises. Visit
www.publichealthontario.ca for more information about the
proposed Ontario Public Health Standards.
