The following specified Reportable Disease, (Ontario Regulation 559/91 and amendments under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, 1990) is to be reported to the Local Medical Office of Health.
Note: Diseases marked and all respiratory infection outbreaks in institutions should be reported immediately to the Medical Officer of Health by telephone. Other diseases are to be reported the next working day.

Surveillance Case Definition: Rubella, congenital syndrome

Confirmed Case - Clinically compatible signs, symptoms or defects in a liveborn infant or a stillbirth;
(a) with isolation of rubella virus from throat swab or urine or
(b) with detection of rubella specific IgM in blood or
(c) with persistence of rubella specific IgG in blood above and beyond that expected from passive transfer of maternal antibody or
(d) without laboratory confirmation (this does not apply if the rubella titre is absent in the mother, is absent in the infant or is declining in a manner consistent with the normal decline of passively transferred antibody after birth).
