What’s New in Health Protection
Back to 2005 Annual Report

New Director at the Helm
The Health Unit welcomes Jane Lyster as the new director of the Health Protection Department. Jane brings over 30 years of public health experience to the position, most recently from Saskatchewan.

Health Units will be responsible for small water works
The Ministry has begun the process of giving provincial health units the responsibility for overseeing and inspecting small non-municipal, non-residential drinking water systems. It is anticipated that the process and the new regulations will be in place by the end of 2006. Please contact the Health Unit if you have any questions about this process or the types of water systems if affects.

Changes to the Building Code Act
Significant changes have been made to the application and approval process for construction of new buildings. Changes include increasing the number of required inspections, as well as introducing a new way to collect and record information. The new application forms for septic system approvals can be accessed via our web site.
