Helping our Children Avoid Drugs and Alcohol

The Health Unit along with the Smiths Falls FOCUS Coalition sponsored the Racing Against Drugs Program and brought it to Smiths Falls in April 2000. Racing Against Drugs is a drug and alcohol prevention program developed by the R.C.M.P. and the former London Board of Education. Since car racing has zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol use, the theme of race-car driving is used. Students visited several quick and interactive “Pit Stops”, delivered by community partners, to receive a message about drug, alcohol and injury prevention. These community partners included Smiths Falls Police Services, Brockville Police Services, O.P.P. (Eastern Region), Smiths Falls Fire Department, Smiths Falls District Ambulance Services, Tri-County Addictions Services, Correctional Services, Lanark County Brain Injury Association, and the R.C.M.P. Approximately 2,500 area Grade 5 and 6 students attended this 4 day event.
