Safe Communities Coalitions
The Health Unit is a partner in three Safe Communities Coalitions: Brockville, Perth
and Smiths Falls. The mission for Safe Communities is to make each community
"the safest place to live, learn, work and play one community at a time".
Working under the Safe Community framework allows the Health Unit to partner with
other agencies and groups who have similar interest or mandate to prevent injuries.
Two significant reasons for responding to injury are: 1. The impact of injury is
immense in terms of morbidity, mortality, personal costs and economic costs. 2. Most
injuries are preventable. We can reduce the incidence and severity or injury. For
