Message from the Medical Officer of Health and the Chair of the Board of Health
Back to 2004 Annual Report

People are much more aware of the importance of public health due to the challenges of recent years: the Walkerton water tragedy, West Nile virus, SARS, food safety concerns and others. Both the federal and the provincial governments have initiated action to renew public health.

We have worked with our communities to prevent disease. Our work includes a wide range of services to keep you and your family healthy – food inspection, water testing, child vaccination, sexual health clinics, healthy lifestyles promotion, infant and maternal health, home visitations of newborns, dental health services and more. Our work is usually low profile but highly effective and critically important.

Dr. Charles Gardner, MD, CCFP, MHSc, FRCPC Medical Officer of Health

Mr. Adrian VanSchie, Chair of the Board of Health
