The Board of Health and Health Unit staff are very proud to provide
services that are focused on improving the things that are most
important to health.
Our services include working with people to ensure access to safe and
nutritious foods and safe drinking water; enabling people to be more
physically active; helping mothers to keep their newborn babies and
themselves well; giving people the knowledge they need to avoid
injuries; responding to community emergencies; helping youth avoid a
lifelong addiction to tobacco; and providing the community with a report
on its health.
This is a time of great change in Ontario public health. The ongoing
development of Local Health Integrated Networks, the creation of a new
provincial Ministry of Health Promotion, and planning for a new
provincial public health agency are all activities the Health Unit is
monitoring closely. Our strategic direction will reflect these changes
while still honouring our commitment to quality service.
We are proud that our Health Unit continues to offer programs and
services that reflect our mission: we work with the community to
enhance, promote and protect health.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Rani Tolton will be the Acting
Medical Officer of Health and Joanne Pearce will be the Acting CEO until
the Board of Health can find a full time MOH to work in both capacities.
Dr. Charles Gardner, MD, CCFP, MHSc, FRCPC Medical Officer of Health
