Promote Healthy Pregnancy & Child Development ECD Project Postpartum
depression is a common complication of childbearing that can affect 10
to 15% of new mothers.
With 1,500 babies born each year in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark,
there could be approximately 175 women with postpartum depression in our
area.
Last year, the Health Unit put information out through the local
media that reached 164,000 radio listeners and over 121,000 newspaper
readers. The
main message was Postpartum Depression is more than just the “Baby
Blues”.
The campaign told residents about the postpartum support groups
running in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark. Several support group
participants said seeing the ads prompted them to seek help.
