Health Surveillance and the Rapid
Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS)
One of the many functions of Public Health is
to undertake ongoing surveillance of the health of the populations we serve.
Surveillance is the systematic collection and analysis of health-related
information and acts as an early warning system to detect changing trends
and potential public health emergencies before they arise. As well, using
surveillance allows your Health Unit to plan and develop the services we
provide to you.
The Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit uses a telephone survey
known as the Rapid Risk Factor Surveillance System (RRFSS) to monitor the
population of Leeds, Grenville and Lanark counties. RRFSS is administered on
behalf of your Health Unit by the Institute for Social Research at York
University. You may have already had a call about RRFSS. Each telephone
survey lasts about 15 minutes and collects a variety of health-related and
demographic information. These surveys are completely confidential. The
reports produced from some of the survey results are available here. |
