This policy applies to food and beverages sold in schools. It will apply to foods and beverages sold in all venues on school property such as cafeterias, vending machines and tuck shops; through all programs, including catered lunch programs; and at all events on school property, including bake sales and sporting events. Schools will be required to implement this policy by the start of the 2011-12 school year.
The Ministry of Education also has online learning modules to help in the successful implementation of the Food and Beverage Policy (Policy/Program Memorandum No. 150). These modules are intended for School board staff, principals and vice-principals, and those involved in the sale of food and beverages in schools (e.g., food service providers, public health professionals, teachers, parents, students).
