Dental Program For Children
Almonte | Brockville | Gananoque | Kemptville | Perth | Prescott | Smiths Falls

CINOT is a municipally funded program for children in need of dental treatment. This program ensures that all Ontario children in urgent need of dental care will receive immediate treatment. The need for immediate treatment would arise due to pain, infection, trauma or conditions that would soon lead to pain or infection.

Health Unit Dental staff provide oral assessments in all tri county elementary schools on an annual basis.
All JK/SK students as well as other selected grades are screened. Schools will be contacted by dental staff to arrange a mutually suitable date and time for screening.

The oral conditions are recorded on a yellow screening card for each child to take home to parents.

If a child is identified with urgent dental needs, the parents are contacted by Health Unit Dental Staff. If the child is eligible for coverage under the CINOT program guidelines, financial assistance is provided for dental treatment.

The Ministry of Health Dental Program also requires that a dental indices survey be conducted yearly. The required age and number of children to be surveyed may vary from year to year. Those schools chosen to be involved in the survey will be notified and screening dates and times will be mutually agreed upon.

Mandatory Health Programs and Services

The board of Health shall conduct the Dental Indices Survey (DIS), annually according to the Ministry of Health Dental Indices Survey Protocol (August 29, 1997) at school entry, in every school, annually; and Based on the current year's DIS results, conduct oral health screening in accordance with the Ministry of Health Indices Survey Protocol (August 29, 1997)

Children are our primary resource for the future and good oral health is essential to the overall health and well being of children. Children with healthy mouths, free from pain and infection are better able to attain their full potential in school and play.
