RABIES EDUCATION
What Is It?
Due to the growing threat of raccoon rabies, family pets are
at increased risk of exposure to rabies, and this could in turn lead to an increased
risk of human exposure. We are asking you to take a key role in educating
children about rabies, and helping to prevent the spread of this deadly disease.
We have provided a Rabies Education Package to your school,
which can be used by each teacher to educate the students on rabies
It contains grade specific lesson plans for grades 1-6.
It is intended to provide
students with an age appropriate definition of rabies and specific information about
the methods of rabies prevention.
Designed to promote an awareness of the potential dangers of
this life-threatening disease and promote safe ways of interacting with both pets
and wildlife.
Rabies Free Ontario is an education initiative
that provides information on rabies prevention to children in elementary schools.
This program has been developed by the Ontario Physical and Health Education
Association (OPHEA) in partnership with Ontario Government ministries responsible
for rabies education and control. This program was specifically designed with
the expectations from the Ontario Curriculum.
