Safe Water Program

The goal of the Safe Water Program is to reduce the incidence of water-borne illness in the community. We believe that safe drinking water is a fundamental component of a healthy community and that our citizens have a right to a safe and reliable supply of drinking water.

In order to meet that goal, Health Unit staff deliver services designed to ensure that community drinking water systems meet the health-related requirements of the Ontario Drinking Water Standards and the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality.

We also believe that private well owners have a right to easy access to routine water sampling and analysis. The Health Unit provides free water sample bottles at all of our offices along with courier service to the Public Health Laboratory. Public Health Inspectors are available to provide advice and information regarding the safety of your water.

In addition, health unit staff work to reduce communicable disease transmission from waters used for bathing at public pools, spas, hot tubs and beaches.

Here is the list of beaches monitored for your safety.
