The
Language Express© Preschool Speech-Language (PSL) Service System is a system of
service providers rendering early identification, direct assessment / treatment
speech-language services, transition to school supports (Model
for Service Delivery of Speech - Language Pathology Services - To School Age
Children), and
educational opportunities to families and community agencies of preschool children
(birth to age 5), in Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Counties. These services are
provided through pre-existing Partner Agencies, and through enhanced service
providers, made available through Ontario Public Health dollars.
The Language Express© was created by community providers and stakeholders in
communication development, a response to a call for proposals by the Ministry of
Health in 1996. The Lead Agency for this Preschool Speech System is the Leeds,
Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit. The Language Express© Central Office is
housed in the Smiths Falls offices of the District Health Unit, and serves 5 Partner
Agencies. This PSL System operates on an integrated model of services. Infant
development workers, speech-language pathologists and their assistants see children,
providing the services that best fit the needs of each child at each stage of
development,.
The Language Express© PSL is known across the country as a leader in the
development of education and health promotion materials, and community agency
training opportunities in the communication field. All services are performed in
collaboration with families, hospitals, community agencies, the child care sector,
family physicians and school boards to provide a comprehensive, integrated set of
services.
