Smoking and the Movies - "Can Watching Movies influence me to Smoke?"

Smoke Free Movies (http://smokefreemovies.ucsf.edu) lists current movies and rates them as smoke free, smoking with negative consequences or promotes smoking. See what brands are featured in the movies and which actors and actress' are promoting smoking. Learn about Big Tobacco companies and how they are influencing Youth. What can YOU do about this? Check it out.

Unfiltered Facts
This new site is youth-driven with the purpose to expose the tobacco industry and their manipulation of youth through sharing of the uncensored and unfiltered facts. They do not give you health messages. They rebel against the tobacco industry's lies and manipulation.

Stupid.ca (Needs flash plugin)
This new youth driven site is sponsored by the Goverment of Ontario. STUPID.CA exists as a project created to speak to youth here in Ontario. It is here to show youth how the industry manipulates them and the effects that smoking can have.

Tobacco Facts www.tobaccofacts.org/index.htm

The ministry of Health in British Columbia put this site together. The site looks at media and its impact when it comes to smoking. There's an online magazine about tobacco and information to the 'Kick the Nic' campaign.

The Truth www.thetruth.com

Teens created this edgy - looking site that uses a lot of interactive information using flash technology and video presentations. It's educational and fun, and helps you make informed decisions and evaluate and manage outside pressures (e.g. Advertising). Great ideas on how teens fight back.

Whole Truth www.wholetruth.com

Truth uses a lot of inside information about just how far the tobacco industry will go to get your money in their pockets. Great examples of some very involved teens.

Teenwavez www.teenwavez.com

Tobacco Resource Action Centre for youth with the assistance of the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. Very good information and examples of projects that youth have done.

CyberIsle www.cyberIsle.org

Developed with teens for teens. This Ontario site lets you direct the content of the site in terms of health issues. This site covers many other health topics - dating, drugs, body image, stress and more. Check out the discussion threads in the hang out, and while you're there, you can also look up hotlines and links to other teen sites.

The new Quit4Life (Q4L) web site can help you to quit smoking... for life.
Q4L is organized around 4 central steps: Get Psyched, Get Smart, Get Support, Get On With It. The site has been re-designed as an interactive and personalized 4 week web program.You're only 4 steps away from quitting smoking... Quit4Life can help get you there.

 

Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca

This site includes information on risks (including tobacco) general cancer information, prevention and services that are available. You can also download a copy of the Quit One Step at a time resources.

Lung Association www.cleartheair.ca

This site is a youth project piloted in the London area. High school students gave their opinion on a smoking issue. The top 10 from each school were posted and voted on. The top ones from each school will compete for a prize. Link on over and post your vote. QuickTime is required to view the videos.

Ontario Campaign for Action on Tobacco (OCAT) www.ocat.org

OCAT focuses its efforts on issues surrounding second-hand smoke exposure. They also have a listing of all Bylaw activity around the Province. Check and see where the smoke free spaces are.

This "hot off the scene" teen tobacco site has surveys, a quiz to test your savvy, an art gallery, postcards…AND it covers info on all the hot school project topics-Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS), Staying smoke free, quitting, laws on selling tobacco and taking a stand on tobacco.
